Alex Blood is a man with a plan. He doesn’t know what that plan entails fully, but he knows he has one. Its got something to do with anarchy, vegetables, boats, and general civil disobedience. How will he take his sketchy manifesto forward?
By sharing his humorous lyrical scribblings on various microphones up and down the country.
Alex’s formative years were spent deep within the UK Hip Hop scene as a rapper. He worked his way up the ranks, gaining radio support from Tim Westwood, Colin Murray, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephans and Sara Cox from BBC Radio 1 and many more reputable stations and DJs, as well as video support on MTV Base and MTV Hits. In 2007 he was a finalist in the Diesel-U-Music awards and in 2008 a BBC Performing Arts bursary winner.
Alex’s individual rhyming style resulted in him receiving a guest vocal slot on Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” official B side remix. The single sold over 400,000 units in the UK. Off the back of the single, Alex joined Ronson on tour promoting his hugely successful “Version” album, and then went on to support US rap superstar Jay-Z in his UK tour as part of Ronson’s band.
After the Jay Z tour Alex began writing new material with live musicians, which led to him forming The Diggers, a group of local musicians who would provide the musical back drop for his increasingly witty dittys.
As an established lyricist and accomplished performer with a solid reputation for clever humour laden content, Alex is now exploring one man show territory and dipping his muddy boot into spoken word with strands of comedy mixed in.
With The Diggers going strong and the poems-a-flowing, 2012 should be a busy one for our Al.
